Rich flavors! Had the dweji gomtang and kimchi Mando.
They only have one main dish and one side dish. Which both are totally awesome.
The dweji gomtang has a very rich flavors but light at the same time. Clear soup not oily at all. It’s very comforting especially when you have it at cold weather. The pork is so sliced very thin that makes it so juicy and easy to chew. Dip it into the sauce to spice it up a lil bit.
The kimchi mandoo is really well made. I can taste the kimchi and pork although its not too strong but when you dip it into the sauce, your world just spins around in joy.
You need to reserve beforehand to secure your spot. It have limited seating; 6-7 persons max.
The service is fast and accommodating.
Would definitely go for another round in the near future!
Looking for a good, simple warm Korean soup? This is the place. They don't add anything other than the basic soup and the choice of meat (pork is recommended) which is served with the specialty Korean red hot sauce mix. Kimchi is good but American style. Kimchi dumpling has a good review but it wasn't anything special for me (nothing bad). Overall I think this would be a good starter of the day rather than ending your day with (just my opinion).
Pros:
- I liked the location. It's not located in the crazy busy Korea town street.
- Staffs are really nice and kind.
- The food is very simple but tastes good.
Cons:
- Maybe a bit overpriced for the amount being served.
- Restaurant is pretty small so you will have to make a reservation far in advance.
If you're craving some Korean comfort food, this is the place to be🍲! The menu is super simple and straight forward. I love how they only serve 1-2 menus and nail them. The space is intimate and quiet.
Their Pork Gomtang is a slightly elevated / modern take on the authentic traditional Korean dish and the broth, the rice, and the taste - everything is just so perfect🙏 during nyc winters, i think of this place immediately because their menu warms my heart!
The dumplings are absolutely delicious. The pork broth was flavorful but I thought it lacked a bit of seasoning. It was very clean without being oily. Overall, the combination was great, and so was their tangerine soda.
The place is small and intimate, like a tiny sushi bar.
This place brought me back to my childhood days in Korea when I used to eat this kind of food all the time. I'd return for another round, for sure.
Naengmyun pop in Aug, Sep at OKdongsik. The broth was very clean but pretty week. The white kimchi in the naengmyun and the other kimchi were both pretty bland. So it wasn’t bad but not super delicious or remarkable. The chef was very confident what he is doing. It’s not Pyongyang naengmyun nor hamgeung naengmyun. It’s just Okdongsik’s style naengmyun as he explained. Suyuk was ok but the pickled vegetable was bland again. Kimchi mandu was good and Korean dessert, Yakgwa was very good.
Dined here for lunch on a rainy Sunday. No wait for this solo diner. Ordered the soup, which arrived within four minutes, accompanied by kimchi. Superb flavor. Service was fast and professional. Interior was functionally elegant. I was out the door within thirty minutes.
Open bar type with intimate setting. Their signature Gochuji goes so well with the sliced pork. Their homemade kimchi dumplings are must try. The pork soup tastes so clean and tender.
Classically simple gomtang restaurant with only counter dining. We were lucky to get a 3-top pretty quickly! The mandus are memorably tasty and the gomtang itself has a clean and simple flavor. The pork can be enhanced with the pepper sauce they give you and is honestly sufficient in volume for one person!
